  • "Sip N' Spin" or "Try-It" Class

    These classes are a fully instructed, fun, 2-hour introduction to the basic techniques on the wheel. Great for beginners or as a refresher. This class only focuses on wet clay on the pottery wheel. Participants can choose one piece to be trimmed and fired by the studio. These can be picked up 3-4 weeks after class.

    No experience required, all levels of experience welcome! Sip N’Spin classes are 21+ and folks can BYOB if they would like, Try-it classes we allow 12+ with a participating adult. These are not “family” classes, so your child should be comfortable in an adult setting.

    $95/person

    Classes are available 4 weeks in advance, if you do not see dates listed they have not been released.

  • 6- Week Wheel Series (All Levels)

    A series class is perfect for folks wanting to learn all the steps of creating pottery on the wheel from prep to glaze firing. We release two series blocks at a time. Sign up for back to back series for a full 12-week experience.

    With small class sizes (8) these sessions can be catered to anyone’s skill level. Beginners are welcome, no experience required. Classes are 3-hours, once a week.

  • 6-Week Intermediate Wheel Series (Skill Building)

    This wheel series is for folks who already know the basics. Participants need to know how to wedge, center, and pull a basic cylinder confidently.

    Example demos we may cover: closed forms, double-walled vessels, and multi-part pieces on the wheel.

  • 6-Week Hand building Series - All levels

    No prior experience required. This class will teach all of the styles of hand building, from sculpting, coil, and slab methods. Students will spend time creating projects that use the various methods of hand building and students will learn glazing in the final weeks. Each student will receive one 25 lb bag of Idaho Buff SM from Clay Art Center in Tacoma. Additional studio time is available for purchase at registration.

    With a small class size this series is perfect for new comers and folks returning to clay.

  • Monthly Membership

    Members should have studio experience and be able to work 100% uninstructed. if you are a beginner or been away from clay for a long time, a class may be a better place to start. Members enjoy unlimited access to member wheels during open studio hours. Members also have access to the studio slab roller, extruder, tools, and bats. Clay is purchased directly from the studio and that pricing includes firing and glaze fees ($40-45 per 25 lb bag). Members have a personal shelf for work and locker for personal storage.

    $275/month + clay

  • Gift Certificates

    Ballard Clay offers gift certificates for our one-time experiences only. Folks can choose between either Sip N’ Spin or Try- It classes with this certificate and you will receive an e-certificate with code and link for the recipient to sign up!

The next session starts the week of May 20th, Monday class will convene on Memorial Day. Our next set of registration dates will be determined by early June with classes starting the week of July 8th.

The next 6- week series session runs from the week of May 20th- June 24th

*Series classes are 2-3 hours per week and include all clay, tools, and instruction provided. Additional practice time in the studio is available at an additional cost after your first class. $10/hour.

Registration Schedule

Sunday, April 21st 10 am Spring session opens to members/current students.

Tuesday, April 23rd 6 p.m. Spring session opens to the newsletter. The email should hit your inbox right at 6 pm!

Thursday, April 25th 6 p.m. Remaining class spots will be added to the website.

Monday, May: Spring session begins!

Refund Policy for classes and events:

Cancel 7+ days prior to the first class= Full refund, less 10% processing

Cancel fewer than 7 days prior to the first class = 50% refund

Cancel less than 48 hours prior to the first class = No refund

*Participants can transfer their registration to another person and email the studio with the new participants name, email, phone, the studio does not handle the transfer of money between participants.

**In cases of illness within 48 hours please contact the studio on why you need to miss the class. Please do not come to class if you are displaying any symptoms of illness! Out of respect for others please mask up even if you are no longer considered contagious, but still displaying symptoms. Email us for options in case of illness info@ballardclay.com.
